Führerheim
The Führerheim was a converted house to the north east of Auschwitz I that became a Hotel and Casino for SS Officers. Its members included Josef Mengele and Otto Moll, and in 1942, Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler stayed the night there after witnessing a gassing of Dutch Jews in Auschwitz Birkenau. The Führerheim was in the vicinity of SS officer houses by the so called 'SS Siedlung' and opposite the former home of SS-Hauptsturmführer Karl Fritzsch, the man responsible for the first experiments with Zyklon B gas.

The building has largely remained untouched since the war and is now privately owned following its conversion back to a family home.
