3rd July 1944

Numbers A-16037 - A-16536 were given to 500 Jewish people who made it to the end of selection from the Hungarian transport that came to Auschwitz on this day. It is possible that some of the young healthy people were kept alive as so-called ‘deposit Jews’. The rest of the transport was killed in the gas chambers.

The 2 trains with transports from Hungary waiting to be opened by the SS. This photograph, taken from the roof of the train, shows the main platform, completed in May 1944, shortly before the arrival of the transports from Hungary. In the foggy background: the buildings of Crematoria II and III
